The Onapookalam made by the Rosebuddies |
Onam is the festival of Kerala, the God’s Own Country. The legend of King Mahabali is the most popular and the most fascinating of all legends behind Onam. Onam celebrates the visit of King Mahabali to the state of Kerala every year. The festival is celebrated with fervour as King Mahabali is greatly respected by his subjects. King Mahabali is also popularly called Maveli and Onathappan. The festival is celebrated as a tribute to the sacrifice of King Mahabali. Every year people make elaborate preparations to welcome their King who was sent to Patala, by Vamana.
Today, at Primrose, Raja Mahabali arrived to see the rosebuddies and he was given a very warm welcome. Rosebuddies had made his favourite Floral Carpet(which is known as Onapookalam in malayam)and had arranged his favourite Chenda Melam to welcome him. He was very happy to spend some time with the enthusiastic students of Primrose. The teachers as well as the students came to see Raja Mahabali in traditional Kerala wears which made him all the more delighted!!!!!!!!!!!
The program started around 12 o’clock with the girls preparing the Onapookalam. Once it was ready, Raja Mahabali arrived with our Director Mrs.Leslie Jacobs and Principal Mrs.Jareena Begum to see the rosebuddies. He was very happy with the welcome given to him. Sandhya narrated his story to the rosebuddies.
The highlight of the day was the tug of war! The traditional Kerala Chenda Melam also added attraction to the function!
