When Young Minds Took the Floor,
Democracy Found a Voice! 

On 18 September 2026, something remarkable unfolded at Primrose.

For a day, classrooms gave way to the language of democracy. The voices of students from Classes VIII, IX and X rose with confidence as they stepped into the roles of young parliamentarians for an engaging and thought-provoking Youth Parliament. And, this was far more than a simulation.

From Taking the Oath to Taking a Stand

The day began with the Oath-Taking Ceremony, a fitting start to an experience that placed citizenship, leadership and responsibility at its very heart. As the young members took their oath, they did more than assume parliamentary roles. They accepted the responsibility to question, listen, deliberate and speak with purpose. The exercise demanded preparation and confidence, but also something equally important - the ability to respect perspectives different from their own.

The occasion was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. T. Sudhakar, Additional Collector and Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Puducherry, as the Chief Guest. His presence lent distinction to the proceedings, while his words of encouragement added depth and inspiration to the experience of our young parliamentarians.

He expressed his delight at witnessing young minds engage thoughtfully with relevant issues and current affairs, recognising in their discussions the early signs of an informed and responsible citizenry. He also offered the students a fascinating glimpse into the functioning of the Administrative Services, sharing insights into the nature and responsibilities of the work he undertakes. His generous offer to give our students a first-hand taste of this world was truly an exceptional opportunity - one that we hope will ignite curiosity and ambition in many young minds.

What made the interaction even more memorable was the personality behind the position. Mr. Sudhakar’s remarkable humility, warmth and down-to-earth demeanour, coupled with his genuine willingness to guide, encourage and extend a helping hand to young people, left a lasting impression on everyone present. His interaction with the students was a beautiful reminder that leadership is not only about the office or title one holds, but also about the openness, accessibility and generosity with which one inspires others. For our young parliamentarians, it was more than an encounter with a senior administrator- it was an opportunity to meet a leader who made public service feel both purposeful and human.

And then, the House Came Alive! The formalities soon gave way to spirited parliamentary proceedings. During Question Hour, young parliamentarians raised questions and sought answers on matters of public importance. Zero Hour brought urgency to the House, with students placing relevant and pressing issues before their fellow members. What followed was a vibrant exchange of ideas, arguments, questions and counter-arguments.

Education. Environment. Healthcare. Technology. Infrastructure. Economic Development. Social Justice. National Security. Social Responsibility. 

The Future of the Nation.

The range of issues reflected the students' growing awareness that the challenges facing society are rarely simple - and that meaningful solutions demand informed thinking, dialogue and collaboration.

When Ideas Became Proposals! 

The introduction and discussion of Government Bills and Private Members’ Bills added another layer of depth to the experience. The students moved beyond merely identifying problems. They explored how ideas can be articulated, presented, questioned and debated as possible pathways to change. In doing so, they discovered an essential lesson about democracy: Having a voice is only the beginning. What matters is how responsibly we use it.

Adding an authentic parliamentary dimension to the proceedings, Mr. L. Dominic Xavier joined the session in the role of a Rajya Sabha Member. His participation brought an added sense of realism to the simulation and gave the students an opportunity to experience the decorum, dynamism and responsibility associated with parliamentary proceedings.

The Organisers Behind the Young Parliament

Every successful event has people who make things happen long before the audience arrives. Sahaleshwar (Class X), Jhasni(Class x) and Gokula Kannan(Class IX) took on that responsibility with remarkable commitment. Their planning, coordination and perseverance helped turn an ambitious idea into a vibrant parliamentary experience. Together, they demonstrated something important: leadership is not always about being the person at the microphone. Sometimes, it is about making sure the microphone is ready for everyone.

Behind the Scenes: The Quiet Force

While the young parliamentarians occupied the floor, another team was working quietly behind the scenes. Mrs. Gomathy D, Mr. Moganadasse D, Mrs. Rajarajeswari. S and Mrs. Suchita Tripathy  guided the students throughout the journey - from preparation and practice to the final proceedings. Their role extended far beyond instruction. They encouraged hesitant voices, helped students discover their strengths, refined ideas, offered reassurance and, most importantly, gave them the confidence to step into the spotlight. The applause may have belonged to the students, but the success of the event was also shaped by the teachers who stood steadfastly behind them. Special thanks to the teaching and non-teaching wing who extended their full support in making the event this vibrant!

More Than a Simulation

Perhaps the most meaningful outcome of the Youth Parliament was not how convincingly the students performed parliamentary roles, but what they learnt by doing so. They learnt that democracy requires participation. That questions matter. That listening is as important as speaking. That disagreement need not mean disrespect. That ideas become meaningful when they are supported by awareness, reasoning and responsibility. And that civic awareness does not begin when young people become adults. It begins when they first realise that the world around them is theirs to understand, question and contribute to.

By the end of the session, the students had done more than enact Parliament. For a few memorable hours, they had experienced the responsibility of having a voice.

The Youth Parliament at Primrose was therefore not simply another event on the school calendar. It was a glimpse of what happens when young people are trusted with meaningful responsibility. It was young minds discovering the power - and the responsibility - of their voice.

Pride and Prejudice: Beyond the Pages

Literature comes alive when students move beyond reading a story to understanding the ideas, emotions and values that lie within it. With this thought, Divergent Voices - Our Interaction Club  organised an engaging Pride and Prejudice event, giving students an opportunity to explore one of the most celebrated works of English literature while reflecting on its relevance to life today.

The event was coordinated by Kaviya V., Lakshana and Sadhana Shree of Class IX, whose initiative and efforts contributed greatly to its success. They were supported by Mrs. Saritha S. and Mrs. Meenaparvathy, who provided guidance and encouragement behind the scenes, helping the students bring their ideas to life.

The event began with preliminary rounds, through which ten students were shortlisted for the final round. While presentations and performances formed an important part of the event, the objective went much deeper. The activity was designed to help students understand the complexities of pride and prejudice - how assumptions, first impressions, social expectations and preconceived notions can influence the way we perceive and treat others.

The students explored these themes through their performances, bringing the characters and situations to life with enthusiasm and creativity. The event encouraged them to look beyond the storyline and think about how the themes of the novel continue to find relevance in our own lives.

We were privileged to have Dr. Vijayalakshmi S., Retired Assistant Professor in English, Bharathidasan College, Puducherry, as the Guest and Jury. She spoke appreciatively about the students' performances and shared valuable insights into the themes of Pride and Prejudice. 

The event was therefore much more than a presentation. It was an opportunity for students to perform, interpret, reflect and learn. Through the world of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, they discovered that pride can cloud judgement and prejudice can prevent us from seeing people for who they truly are. The enthusiastic participation of the students and the thoughtful reflections shared during the event made it a meaningful literary experience - one that went beyond the pages of the book and into the lessons of everyday life. 

Thanks to Mrs. Saritha.S, Mrs. Meenaparvathy.T, and Mrs. Nithiyakalyani S. for patiently guiding, mentoring, and encouraging our students throughout the event.

S, Mrs. Bernadette Dimanche A., Mrs. Hamalda S., Mrs. Grace Sylvia.J and Mrs. Arthi N. for taking care of the stage and microphone arrangements and ensuring that everything was in place for the smooth conduct of the event.

And a very special note of gratitude to our non-teaching team - their quiet, dependable support behind the scenes made a big difference. While their work may not always be visible on stage, it is an essential part of making every event at Primrose happen successfully.

Mock Interview - One Conversation at a Time!

Learning to communicate with confidence is a skill that grows through experience. With this in mind, Divergent Voices - Our Intercation Club organised a Mock Interview for students of Classes IV and V, providing them with an engaging opportunity to step into the shoes of an interviewee and experience the excitement of a real interview.

What made the initiative particularly special was that it was planned and conducted by our Class IX students – Daksha. B, Yaash. J. Purohit and Srinithie Melina. Their leadership, planning and sense of responsibility helped create a wonderful learning experience for their younger peers.

The students of Classes IV and V participated enthusiastically in the preliminary rounds. Through the interviews, they had the opportunity to practise introducing themselves, answering questions, expressing their thoughts clearly and, most importantly, developing confidence while interacting with others.

Following the preliminary rounds, 12 students were shortlisted for the Grand Finale. The finale was made even more special by the presence of Ms. Sujatha Koushig - Master Trainer , Employability/Soft Skills Trainer / Career Guidance Professional/ Certified IELTS/ PTE Trainer - who joined us as the Guest and Jury. Her presence and interaction with the children added great value to the event and made the final round a memorable experience for the participants.

The Grand Finale showcased not only the children's communication skills but also their confidence, presence of mind and willingness to learn. Every child who participated demonstrated enthusiasm and courage, and all the finalists were appreciated and awarded for their sincere efforts and participation.

The Mock Interview was more than just an activity - it was an opportunity for our young learners to discover their strengths, overcome hesitation and understand the importance of communicating with confidence.

A special appreciation goes to Daksha, Yaash and Srinithie of Class IX and the teachers who supported them from the backseat Mrs. Gomathy. D and Mrs. Rajarajeswari.S for taking the initiative and making this meaningful experience possible. Their efforts remind us that learning becomes even more powerful when students learn with one another and from one another. A heartfelt thanks to Ms. Nithiyakalyani S., Mrs. Grace Sylvia, and Mrs. Arthi N. for their excellent arrangements of the stage and microphones, and to our non-teaching staff for their dedicated efforts in arranging the furniture and ensuring everything was set up smoothly.

Kudos to Lakshana R. and Yaashmitha S. of Class X for making the event lively with their excellent anchoring!

The Youth Festival brings together three mega events, each designed to provide our young learners with meaningful opportunities to speak, express, think, interact and shine! 

🎤 YOUTH PARLIAMENT - A platform for students to express ideas and opinions, engage in meaningful discussions and develop the confidence to speak before an audience.

📖 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE – PRESENTATIONS - An opportunity to explore literature, communicate ideas and bring characters and stories to life through engaging presentations.

🌟 MOCK INTERVIEW - A purposeful experience that encourages students to think on their feet, communicate effectively and face an audience with confidence and poise.

MORE THAN EVENTS - AN EXPERIENCE IN LEADERSHIP

What makes this Youth Festival truly special is that our students are not just participants — they are also the organisers.

Students will take the lead in planning and conducting various aspects of the events, while our teachers will provide guidance and support from the backseat, allowing the young organisers to take ownership and responsibility.

This hands-on experience will help them develop valuable skills in leadership, teamwork, coordination, communication, decision-making and event management. More importantly, it will give them the confidence to step forward and take charge of organising events in the future.

We believe that when children are given the opportunity to lead, they learn to believe in themselves. 

💬 INTRODUCING - DIVERGENT VOICES

All three events are being organised under DIVERGENT VOICES, the Interaction Club of the School, which aims to create a vibrant platform for students to develop their interaction, communication and public speaking skills.

Through the club, we hope to create more opportunities where students can share their thoughts, engage with one another, overcome stage fear and gradually discover the power of their own voices.

At the heart of Divergent Voices is a simple belief:

Every child has a voice. Every voice deserves to be heard.

The Youth Festival is our step towards helping our children find the courage to speak without fear, express without hesitation and lead with confidence.
